Abstract:
Skewed iron emission lines from the inner accretion disk and broad-band disk reflection spectra are incisive diagnostics of relativistic effects and the inner accretion flow geometry in black hole binaries. With its high effective area, efficient instrument modes, and sensitivity in hard X-rays, Suzaku is ideally suited to fully exploit these diagnostics. We request a total of 154 ksec in up to four observations to observe a black hole transient in outburst, using a scheme tailored to accommodate different source fluxes and Suzaku's observing windows. We will support these observations with a global multi-wavelength network of observatories. Understanding accretion onto black holes is central to NASA's ``SEU'' research theme.
