Abstract:

The goals of this proposal are to use Suzaku XIS observations to : 1) determine whether EG And, BX Mon, and BF Cyg are members of the recently recognized class of hard X-ray emitting symbiotic stars; and 2) if they are, compare the nature of any absorption, the optical depth of the boundary layer, and the accretion rate to those of the well established hard X-ray symbiotics. Understanding the accretion processes in symbiotic stars is a crucial step in determining the role they play as progenitors of type Ia supernovae.
