Abstract:

We propose to observe diffuse radiation from the Galactic plane in the general direction of the anticenter. Absolute measurement of the O VII and O VIII line fluxes will help establish the origin of this mysterious component of the diffuse background. This will allow a search for spectral signatures of non-thermal emission, i.e. charge- exchange emission, in the 3/4 keV band and the determination of abundances in hot gas thermal emission without risk of confusion by emission from hot gas in the Galactic Bulge.
