Abstract:
We propose 80 and 40 ksec observations of the central and 30' offset regions of fossil group, NGC 1550, respectively, to study metal abundance distributions of O to Fe to the ~0.2 times of virial radius. A good energy resolution, and a low and stable background level of the XIS instrument are crucial for this study. A comparison of O to Fe abundance profiles will tell us how metals produced by type Ia and II supernovae have been enriched in the intergalactic space. In addition, a comparison of the metal distributions of the nominal group of galaxies and fossil group will show us how much metal production and diffusion processes differ with system.
