Abstract:

We propose to observe, for a total of 180 ks, the region between the galaxy cluster A3528 and the complex A3530-A3532, in which we expect to find the filament connecting the clusters. With the requested time we aim to detect the Warm Hot Intergalactic Medium (WHIM) by its thermal soft-Xray emission, to resolve one of the major problems of modern astrophysics - the missing baryons , which are now thought to reside in the filaments connecting clusters. In addition to a full understanding of the typical baryon fraction, the proposed observations will allow us to study the gas clumping in the cluster outskirts. Furthermore, a combined analysis of X-ray and optical data will enable us to shed light on the influence of the environments on galaxy evolution.
