Abstract:

We propose to carry out Suzaku observations of the starburst galaxy M82. We will search for X-ray emission from winds and shock heated clouds out to its possible outer boundary of ~45 kpc. We will also constrain the density and temperature profiles of the gas/wind emission out to large radii. These data can place important constraints on theoretical models of starburst galaxies and their environments. We will test models such as the Chevalier & Clegg adiabatic wind model, shocked clouds in a wind, etc. The low Suzaku background allows this measurement.
