   PR # 22173
    Broad absorption line quasars (BALQSOs) provide a special view into  
    the gas dynamics in normal radio-quiet quasars. X-ray diagnostics of 
    this region would be powerful, However only PHL5200 has been detected
    strongly in hard X-rays (EXOSAT ME, Singh et al. 1987).  Luckily     
    consistency with the LE requires a N$_H\sim 10^{22}atoms~cm^{-2}$    
    making it an excellent candidate for examining the BAL region.  We   
    propose to obtain a $\sim$3000 count ASCA spectrum (in each of the   
    SIS and GIS).
