Proposal Abstract
This proposal aims to continue our ongoing effort to probe the fine structure
of PKS 1921-293. The two epoch observations proposed here, which will be
complemented by our already scheduled two epoch 5.0 GHz VSOP polarization
observations and, our ongoing high frequency (43 and 86 GHz) ground based
VLBI imaging and multi-frequency single dish monitoring, will enable us to
monitor the size and brightness temperature of the components and their
variations, as well as to check the inner jet component seen by a short
VSOP test observation. PKS 1921-293 is one of the few sources strong enough
to guarantee useful polarization measurements, and these will be used to
determine the alignment of the magnetic field with the bent jet. Furthermore,
the matched resolution VSOP 1.6 GHz and ground-only 5.0 GHz images will allow
a map of the spectral index variation across the source to be made in the same
manner as for 3C279, allowing the site(s) of shock acceleration in the jet to
be discerned.
The full Cover Sheets
(compressed post-script, typically 50kbytes) can
be retrieved. Note that many proposals were reduced in extent by the
Scientific Review Committee (e.g. by reducing the number of
experiments), however the Cover Sheets contain the full proposal as
submitted. Also note that AO3 proposals were submitted in October 1999,
and information such as affiliations and contact details has
changed for some proposers since that time. The Cover Sheets (and the
details on this page, which were derived from the Cover Sheets) may
therefore have changed.
