XRISM resolve observation 202068010

Object

MCG-5-23-16

Abstract

MCG-5-23-16 is one of the brightest AGNs exhibiting a relativistic iron line. Unlike MCG-6-30-15, a highly significant feature of ultrafast outflow (UFO) has been reported, offering a valuable opportunity to study both the accretion disk and associated UFO. We propose a 160-ks XRISM observation of MCG-5-23-16 to resolve the Fe-K band complex, enabling a robust measurement of the inner radius. By measuring the UFO velocity (~0.1c), we will assess whether the inner radius is smaller than the launching radius of the UFO. For the first time XRISM will detect short-timescale (~20 ks) UFO variability, constraining the clumpy nature of the UFO in the sub-Eddington AGN.
