RX_J1347.5-1145
We propose high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy of RX J1347.5-1145 at z=0.45, one of the most X-ray luminous clusters. Previous observations revealed extremely hot gas from an off-axis merger coexisting with a sloshing cool core, making this system a laboratory for merger-driven gas dynamics. With XRISM, we will constrain turbulent broadening in the core and search for line-of-sight bulk velocities in the shock-heated gas, quantifying the balance between coherent and random motions. A 250 ksec exposure with multi-wavelength data will establish its three-dimensional structure and clarify how kinetic energy is partitioned in this high-redshift merger. We will also examine Fe-K line ratios to test for deviations from standard plasma conditions at very high temperatures.
