CC_ERIDANI
Cool dwarfs frequently produce superflares that drive hot coronal outflows and affect exoplanetary atmospheres, but their coronal dynamics are poorly understood. We propose a 250 ks XRISM observation of the cool-dwarf binary CC Eri, coordinated with TESS optical photometry, to detect ~10 superflares. Our goal is to detect Doppler shifts in the Fe He-alpha line and reveal the occurrence and properties of flare-driven coronal outflows. We will also measure fluorescent Fe line emission and, with TESS optical flare intensity, constrain the flare emission and heating mechanism. The observations should provide key inputs to numerical simulations of planetary space environments and help determine whether solar-like, planet-impacting outflows occur in cool dwarfs.
