HERCULES_X-1
Her X-1 is an X-ray binary with a warped, precessing disk, uniquely allowing us to sample the vertical structure of its disk wind, and measure the wind number density from its time-dependent ionization response to the X-ray pulsations of the neutron star. We request 180 ks of XRISM exposure to perform a deep analysis of the wind of Her X-1. Pulse-resolved analysis of these exposures will result in 3 to 5 constraints on the wind number density over a range of heights above disk, allowing us to fit for density evolution with height. The measured density evolution will strongly constrain the wind launching mechanism. These observations will give us the best 3D understanding of an accretion disk wind in an XRB, and result in the most precise total mass outflow rate and energetics measurements.
