REVERBERATION IN NGC 4151 WITH XRISM
Optical broad line reverberation mapping of Seyferts has helped the field to understand the geometry of accretion onto massive black holes, and to measure black hole masses. Now, XRISM observations of NGC 4151 during the PV phase have resolved specific line components that may reveal even more. We request a total of 360 ks in 9 exposures in XRISM Cycle 1 to undertake a pioneering simultaneous X-ray and optical reverberation lag study of NGC 4151. Building on key prior results, we demonstrate that modest observations will achieve the sensitivity needed to detect a reverberation lag in X-rays. This is the first step to understanding the relative geometry of the X-ray and optical components of the broad line region, and weighing massive black holes in X-rays.
