AN ATLAS OF MOTIONS IN A2142 AT HIGH SPECTRAL RESOLUTION WITH XRISM
We propose to observe the core of Abell 2142 with XRISM for 100 ks to map turbulence and bulk motions with the exquisite spectral resolution of RESOLVE. XRISM will costrain the level of turbulence in the core of the brightest and nearest clusters and it is thus important to map a variety of dynamical states. A2142 stands up for (1) its high flux in the 2-10 keV band, ideal for a gate-valve closed observation; (2) its intermediate state between a relaxed cool core and a violent merger, mirrored by an unusual radio emission; (3) its rich variety of motions suggested by its extreme sloshing and a close pair of BCGs with extreme difference in velocity along the line of sight. Therefore, A2142 is an ideal target for an AO1 XRISM observation.
