Abstract

Socioeconomical impacts of solar flares are immense in modern civilization, and the physical understanding of flares in all scales is an urgent goal of astrophysics. Giant flares happen rarely in the Sun but often in distant stars, which provides a laboratory to test the flare physics in many orders of scales. The extrapolation by many orders should be justified, which can be best done by revealing the plasma spatial structure of stellar flares. Access to the plasma spatial structure in distant stars is indeed possible if we use eclipsing binaries. We propose to observe Algol for two orbital cycles (5.74 day) with an estimated flare detection rate of 84%. We use the Fe K line ratio diagnostics using Resolve for a robust estimate of the plasma temperature established in GT Mus.
