RCW38
We propose a 200 ks XRISM observation of the young massive stellar cluster RCW 38 to measure, for the first time, the velocity dispersion of hot plasma in its compact core. Previous Chandra and Suzaku observations established a dominant high temperature (kT greater than 4 keV) component associated with massive stars, but its dynamical state and physical origin remain uncertain. By resolving the Fe XXV He alpha line and probing Fe XXVI emission with Resolve, we will constrain both the plasma dynamics and the highest temperature component. Because RCW 38 is extremely young and unaffected by supernova activity, this observation will directly probe stellar wind energy processing in a clean feedback environment.
