Proposal Abstract
We propose single-epoch polarization observations of the quasar 1055+018
at 1.6 and 5 GHz. Global VLBI observations at 1.7 GHz indicate that the
millisecond-scale structure is roughly perpendicular to the arcsecond-scale
structure mapped by VLA observations (they are offset by 60--70 degrees).
In addition, the source is extremely compact and substantially polarized.
The proposed HALCA measurements would make it possible to study the
behavior of the position angle of the jet structure as it extends from the
VLBI core to arcsecond scales. The availability of linear polarization
measurements will provide additional information about the magnetic field
geometry along the apparently curved jet.
The full Cover Sheets
(compressed post-script, typically 50kbytes) can
be retrieved. Note that many proposals were reduced in extent by the
Scientific Review Committee (e.g. by reducing the number of
experiments), however the Cover Sheets contain the full proposal as
submitted. Also note that AO2 proposals were submitted in May 1998,
and information such as affiliations and contact details has
changed for some proposers since that time. The Cover Sheets (and the
details on this page, which were derived from the Cover Sheets) may
therefore have changed.
