Proposal Abstract

On the basis of the CGRO/EGRET observations, it has been discussed that a possible connection between the high energy gamma-ray activity and high-speed radio jet of AGN. However there seems no definite evidence of such beaming. We propose to observe a gamma-ray quasar 1611+343 by VSOP, to study clear connection of radio jet and gamma-ray emission. According to the ground-based VLBI observations, this source possibly has a faster jet close to the central core, while the outer jet is relatively slow. Since the gamma-ray is emitted at or close to the core, the existence of faster jet in a small scale strongly supports the beamed gamma-ray hypothesis.

The full Cover Sheets (compressed post-script, typically 50kbytes) can be retrieved. Note that many proposals were reduced in extent by the Scientific Review Committee (e.g. by reducing the number of experiments), however the Cover Sheets contain the full proposal as submitted. Also note that AO2 proposals were submitted in May 1998, and information such as affiliations and contact details has changed for some proposers since that time. The Cover Sheets (and the details on this page, which were derived from the Cover Sheets) may therefore have changed.
